Voulant vendre mes \u0153uvres, je me suis mis \u00e0 peindre d\u2019apr\u00e8s mes collages, car ces derniers n\u2019avaient aucune chance d\u2019\u00eatre vendus \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque. Cette origine contestatrice, ironique colore son origine, m\u00eame s\u2019il a \u00e9t\u00e9 adouci par des courants surr\u00e9alisants ou esth\u00e9tisants actuels. Je le consid\u00e8re \u00e0 la base un art de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration de rebut. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs ainsi que le d\u00e9finissait <em>Aragon<\/em> dans son livre sur le collage<sup>(*)<\/sup>\u00a0: le <em>\u00ab\u00a0pauvre\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> collage, contrairement \u00e0 la <em>\u00ab\u00a0luxueuse\u00a0\u00bb<\/em> peinture, permettrait de s&rsquo;affranchir de la <em>\u00ab\u00a0domestication (de l\u2019art) par l&rsquo;argent\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><em>.<\/em> C\u2019est un art d\u2019assemblage qui joue avec les juxtapositions comme des rimes en po\u00e9sie. Tout y est dans la jointure, dans la fronti\u00e8re entre deux fragments photographiques.<\/p>\n<p>Aujourd\u2019hui, le collage est souvent surr\u00e9aliste et il se retrouve un peu partout dans des \u0153uvres qui m\u00e9langent peinture et \u00e9l\u00e9ments coll\u00e9s. On peut donc dire que le collage a envahi l\u2019esth\u00e9tique picturale moderne, par ex. chez l\u2019artiste allemand <em>Neo Rauch<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Personnellement, j\u2019utilise le collage \u00e0 la fois pour son impertinence et pour l\u2019\u00e9clatement de l\u2019espace traditionnel \u00e0 la mani\u00e8re des cubistes. Le torse avec les mains gant\u00e9es impeccables est contredit par la t\u00eate de mort surmont\u00e9e d\u2019un chignon parfaitement coiff\u00e9. C\u2019est un memento mori. Reste \u00e0 expliquer la pr\u00e9sence de la colombe. Si c\u2019est le Saint Esprit, on ne voit pas ce qu\u2019il pourrait annoncer ou faire ici, si c\u2019est la colombe de la paix, elle vient trop tard. Nous vivons dans un monde d\u2019o\u00f9 l\u2019espoir s\u2019est enfui. J\u2019y suis sensible, \u00e9tant n\u00e9 en janvier 1941 en Allemagne. Outre la destruction de la maison quasi d\u00e9truite dans une ville syrienne, il y a une allusion \u00e0 l\u2019exil des populations, sujet qui me touche beaucoup \u00e0 cause de mon origine de \u00ab\u00a0Mischling = m\u00e9tis\u00a0\u00bb appellation utilis\u00e9e par les Nazis pour un enfant tel que moi, de m\u00e8re juive et de p\u00e8re allemand. J\u2019\u00e9prouve de la nostalgie devant certains aspects de la modernit\u00e9. Ce qui rend cette image supportable pour moi, c\u2019est ce visage de Peau-Rouge qui m\u2019interpelle et qui exprime, pour moi, de la bont\u00e9. Est-il complice du massacre\u00a0? Est-il simplement passif\u00a0? Je n\u2019en sais rien. L\u2019image reste \u00e9nigmatique, y compris pour moi.
